Women of Vision is a ministry of World Vision. Our chapter currently meets in Ellensburg but we seek to serve Central Washington. On this page you'll find the latest information about our chapter's activities, including fundraising efforts, our community service activities and the clean water, health and sanitation project we support in Zambia. As a chapter we are involved locally at the FISH Food Bank and internationally in Zambia.

You'll also hear from us--our thoughts and feelings about what God has called us to do in partnership with each other and the women and children we serve. We invite you to journey with us; feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns!

Human trafficking is twenty–first century slavery. While
it's often associated with the sex trade in foreign
countries, the issue goes far beyond prostitution.
Victims right here in Washington state have been found
in a variety of businesses such as construction,
housekeeping, food service, and agriculture. Victim
advocates and law enforcement say it can surface in
any industry. Find out how you can help! Be educated!

Human trafficking is not something that we think of as we go about our lives in the small towns of Kittitas County. Interstate 90 crosses this great country of ours. Hundreds of semi-trucks run right through our communities making it one of the easiest routes for human trafficking. Human trafficking consists of both labor and sex trafficking and yes... it can happen in our town!

F.I.S.H. Food Bank

Friends in Service to Humanity (F.I.S.H.) Food Bank ~ Our Local Community Project

While we are excited to be working internationally, we are also just as excited to partner with the F.I.S.H. Food Bank here in Ellensburg, WA.

F.I.S.H. has been serving this community since April 1971. FISH operates under the umbrella of Hope Source, a local community service agency. Their website is:

The Food Bank is currently are open Monday through Friday from 3-5:00pm for individuals and families to come and receive the assistance needed. FISH also provides lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for people in our community. Last year F.I.S.H. provided meals to 3,827 households in need.

Our Women of Vision Chapter is proud to come alongside to help volunteer hours for the Food Bank. Please contact us if you are interested in helping deliver food or help during their hours of operation.

If you want to be part of our service to FISH, here are some ways to be involved:
1. Donate food
2. Donate diapers
3. Donate your time: we are in need of people to come and volunteer to help prepare and serve food and come help clients shop for food.

Heart of the Matter

Thank you for your interest in the Heart of The Matter Study. It is our prayer that this study blesses and challenges you.

The Heart of the Matter Bible Study Series
The Heart of the Matter is a biblically-based, interactive, study series which can be done individually or in a small group. A leadership guide is included for each study. The series includes three distinct studies which can be used one at a time or together for a longer study. Hope in a World of Hurt is foundational for them all.

1. Hope in a World of Hurt — four lessons focusing on how Christians are called to respond to the needs of the poor, some root causes of poverty, relating to those living in poverty, and how love is key to coming alongside those in need. The final chapter is the challenge to speak out and advocate.

2. Communities Transformed with Change that Lasts — six lessons studying how transformational community development brings hope and lasting change to communities and individuals. Topics include planning from the ground up, asset-based community development, using appreciative inquiry, and the specific impact of improving access to water and food, health, literacy and economic development. The study wraps up by recognizing how a holistic perspective is what works best. This is excellent preparation for traveling or serving in developing communities. Coming soon!

3.Touching the Lives of Women in Poverty — four lessons examining how extreme poverty and injustice uniquely impact the lives of women and girls. Topics include gender equity from birth, trafficking and exploitation, work, health, and the violence of mutilation and conflict. This study will motivate participants to help change the world for girls and women. Coming soon!

The combination of video, printed material, discussion and reflection questions, simulations, quizzes, and other learning activities contribute to a multifaceted and creative learning experience and makes this series easy to lead and personally engaging for all participants.

The study offers opportunities to: explore Scripture, personally reflect, share and pray , develop a greater understanding about poverty and oppression participate in interactive learning experiences learn about the transformational and long term work of World Vision

AIDS WALK

December 4, 2011

On World AIDS Day we honor those lives lost and bring awareness and hope to a devastating sickness that is leaving behind a generation of children who no longer have their parents, teachers, doctors, community workers. This year we will continue our support for children and communities devastated by HIV/AIDS through our AIDS WALK.

We walk because each day 6,000 children in our global community lose one or both parents due to AIDS. It is a global crisis wiping out generations of mothers, fathers and community workers. According to World Vision:

33 Million people are currently infected with HIV
2 Million people die because of AIDS each year
22 Million are in Sub-Saharan Africa - 90% of these are children
Another person DIES every 15 seconds from AIDS. A child dies because of AIDS every 2 minutes.

According to Cry Africa 1,000 people die in South Africa every day from the AIDS virus. Another 1500 are infected every day. The average age of those infected is between 15 and 24, 90% of these are young women.

AIDS CAN BE STOPPED.!

Uganda’s HIV prevalence was reduced from 21 percent in 1991 to just

over 5 percent today, largely thanks to a community-based approach

to prevention.

"AIDS is so limited."
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot take away peace.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot invade the soul.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the spirit.
Our greatest enemy is not disease
But despair.

What can YOU do?

WALK with us to bring awareness of this crisis to our community.
DONATE towards a Caregiver Kit to help equip volunteers caring for those living with AIDS. Each kit cost $28 and will provide supplies for one caregiver for an entire year!

Join us on our journey of 6,000 steps (roughly 3 miles) around Ellensburg the first Sunday in December (there is a registration fee of $5).

Have you ever wondered how you can impact a child who is suffering? Child Sponsorship is a program through World Vision where you can help not only a child who is in need but help transform a community as well.

Our Women of Vision chapter is committed to a World Vision project in Zambia, a country devastated from HIV/AIDS and poverty. Our chapter is committed to sponsoring children from our area and we need your help! When you sponsor a child you will be connected to this precious little life through letters and your prayers. Your $35 each month goes to provide things like

Clean Water
Health Care
Nutritious Food
Educational Opportunities
HIV/AIDS Counseling
Care for sick or dying parents
Spiritual Nurture

Women of Vision is a volunteer ministry of World Vision that unites Christian women called to invest their time, intellect, compassion, creativity, and finances so these impoverished women and children might find hope and a tangible expression of God's love.

The Kittitas County Chapter began in the fall of 2006 with a group of women challenged by the Heart of The Matter Study. As a result of much prayer and guidance by World Vision our chapter was officially formed in the Spring of 2007. We meet regularly for prayer, planning and education on issues pertaining to women and children in crisis.

We encourage all women to come and participate in what God is doing in our hearts and in the lives of women and children in the world! There are so many ways you can be involved with us! You can attend partnership meetings, pray for us, sponsor a child, take the Heart of the Matter Class, volunteer at the FISH Food Bank or donate to our Zambia Project!
